A friend sent me this amazing picture from the top of the Burj Dubai the world tallest building (still underconstruction).
The tiny skyscrapers on the left are over 55 stories and look like toy houses. Also checkout the guys standing on the top balancing on a beam, crazy builders!

Also cant tell if it is the lense on the camera that tool the shot or can you actually see the curviture of the earch on the horizon.
Nope. The curvature is due to the convex lens used. It wont be possible to capture the picture with the vicinity with a normal camera. I have read comments on few websites that the workers can see the rotation of the earth from the top of the tower. I find it hillarious and amusing to read such comments.

The curvature of the earth can be seen (with a lot of good will) starting from altitudes of about 50,000 ft (17 kilometres) altitude and above.
Sorry guys, but I’m afraid this won’t ever be seen from some arabian rooftop…
If you want to visit the Burj Dubai go to http://www.burjdubaivisit.com!!!
Unbelievable…………….

this was taken using a fish-eye lens, hence the ridiculous and unreal curviture. extremely tall building though!
either through alense or without it, but its an ultimate tower.

Just unbelievable they can build a structure that high. I’ve heard after it has been constructed, a person living in it would not have to leave. One could live inside Burj Dubai all his/her life.
cool now thats a cool building i love it sooo.
wonderful
this buiding is so cool i love it.

So far, so good. What makes me sad is that up to now, I’ve heard of no plans or intentions to have a memorial or at least a comemorative plate somewhere near or inside the building to remind of those who lost their lives during the construction.
In my opininon, it would suit the Al Maktoum family well and it could underline their greatness, after all.

IT is certainly due to the use of a convex lens

It looks like Paul Richardson qnis standing up and slightly listing to the left. Of course, the crane operators make about $50 per hour, plus all benefits, plus bonus money for staying 6 months or more!!!

I dont understand why they have to build buildings so large. You know, no one cares!

Its pretty obvious its the lens, its a magnificent building, I watched a television programme on the construction and it was just fascinating. Dubai is a stunning country with lovely people and great fore-sight however……….those are seriously crazy mother hubbards sat on that girder! I know they have fall arrest harnesses attached, you would still have the colley-wobbles at that height!!
That’s amazing. I think that the architecture in Dubai is just amazing. Awesome picture!
Thanks for sharing!

Try Rick Schlauch Corn Chips and stand on the platform and look down, it will scare you!!!
I love it!! I hope someone will soon plan and build a skyscraper that reaches from earth’s surface up to the moon. That would be the first buildung everconnecting a planet with its moon. Then, elevators would go up from either side and meet where earth’s and moon’s gravitation forces equal (approximately 10,354,897th floor as seen from the earth, or 2,957,890th floor as seen from the moon). There, a zone of zero gravitation would exist – perfect for kinds of fun sport we hardly could imagine, yet.
At a second thought I have to mention, it would be useful to replace those elevators with monorails driven either by magnetic levitation or TIE-Fighter-engines.

Hi All.
I live in Dubai, close to Burj Dubai at Dubai Marina. Just to keep you all aware about the latest news, Burj Dubai though still underconstruction just giving the tower its final touch, visitors have the opportunity to visit the 128th floor of the tower for site seeing.
So if anyone here from abroad reads my statement, please dont miss the opportunity on visiting the Burj Dubai on your holiday visit to Dubai.
Kind Regards,
Hasan Shaikh

I don’t think there’s anything special about this building except for it’s height and speedy elevators. I mean the design is pretty average. Now the bourgeoisie have another way to show off…..
